Preparing a figurative art exhibition funded by the Town of Richmond Hill by Sue Foerster

                       Preparing a Figurative Art Exhibition
                                   grant support fund
by the Town of Richmond Hill
                               by Sue Foerster
Sharing our experiences is something we're compelled to do!
It is in our Nature!
It's part of what defines us as humans beings, and glorifies us as individuals.
Creative instinct marks the presence of human consciousness.
The tribal imperative of our existence.
                                                                                                   artist statement by Sue Foerster
From Cradle to Grave, we are all works in progress!

Thanks to the funding from the Town of Richmond Hill for making this exhibition possible.

journal log Jan 25, 2016
first installment arrived Jan 25, 2016 which happened to be the same day as my Birthday
Journal log.....Feb 2016
received first installment of 500 dollars and deposited in my bank acct.
and purchased 10 canvas 30 inches by 40 inches and 2 and a half inches deep.
Application  of 3 layers of medium grey gesso which I had already in my studio, applied  vertically, horizontally and then vertical again.
The purchase came from Deserres at a zone price of $361.50
from Chris Starteck/manager. He gave me a deal without the Zone Card.
My bank card expired and had to use a Master Card instead.
Ran to the bank to quickly resolve this and to leave a paper trail for the records.

journal log mid Feb 2016
Application of warm and cool background colour with oil paint on five canvas.
Hoping to achieve a dynamic background for the figure to interact with.
Barb Jones the life model will pose for these once a month May, June July and August 2016. The Grant will cover the cost for all 4 sessions 80 dollars per session a total of $320 dollars. I will also invite a small group of creative people to join me in these sessions with a drop in fee of 20 dollars to cover the cost of wine and food and with the permission of Barbie, we all are allowed to take pictures of our dancing model.

Feb 29 preparing canvas number 6 with oil warm and cool light meets dark abstract background. Active background for Barbie to dance with Space.

The oil paint is a gift from Maria who attends life drawing sessions. I am so grateful to know such amazing people. I have enough paint for 10 paintings.

April 29, 2016 Ran in to Nancy owner of Covernotes today and we discussed a solo show in the back showcasing Tiny Dancer series from Dec 10, 2016 to Jan 2017. Very excited to display work May 7 and 8 @The Mill Pond Gallery

April 29 journal log entry.......Using hands on practical skills from life drawing driven with a passion for traditional and modern integration. A game changing approach to selective line, vivid colour and personal self expression evoking motion and stretching my eyes to see more than before. The journey of translating a welcomed challenge gaining confidence and rise to instinct and ideas to put forward and continue.
The procedures in this series is new. I am using photo reference and trying to maintain spontaneous approach with active ground while imagining the model in front of me and drawing from life.

May 21st journal log entry...Vision is a whole body experience!

The body is a temple. The body is like a word in the positive space of a poem, and the negative space gives the meaning of the poem, painted with the dynamic background, the call of the universal essence calling for it.
The Ballerina not only dances with her body but also with the space surrounding her.
Evoking a spiritual human presence and emotional connection.
The Dancer series are figures captured in transition of moving through a single motion, interacting and evolving with the dynamics of space and time.

We live in a world with a theater of experiences. Building bridges that open up our consciousness when creating art, raising thoughts, ideas questioning authority with the purest of intent in connecting all of humanity.
Life is a dance.

adding design elements to original drawing Tiny Dancer series

June 11 journal log....
Just like a gesture,
Ballet is all about the line that explodes from it's original position.
Dance is the language that everyone understands.
The moment you pose.... the movement is gone.
Hear the dance and see the music. It's all about balance!
Destiny is already there, just go through the steps.
A ballerina exudes excitement, energy and musicality.
I have to decided to combine abstract impressionism and art nouveau with this series.
Speaking from my heart.

July 6 Barbie the Ballerina sketch with wings on 3 layered gessoed canvas 30 by 40 inches 1.5 inches thick...I plan to airbrush this and see what happens
artist statement A woman is always in evolution
I am reminded of the 7 key elements of gesture drawing
draw loosely
draw lightly in a holistic way
draw lines of action...a tug on direction is the dominant line
lines of rythym capturing the flow of the movement "S":
draw long capturing the flow more strongly and allowing the body to fold in the sense of movement
draw large...torso action defines the movement and allows for inventiveness for the rest of the body
draw lively...capturing motion with the sense of movement
overthinking will look static...keep it sketchy

Transparent Drawing Series

Transparent Drawing series 1 by Sue Foerster

Transparent Drawing series 2 by Sue Foerster

Transparent Drawing...Nothing hidden, everything revealed!
There is no such thing as a bad drawing...
The best drawings are the ones that do the most spontaneous work with mark making.
...a working drawing gives a holistic understanding, using design,
visual facts and fresh form.
The Theory operates on the intersection of the visual and literary components of our culture.
